![]() With so many people asking this and so many people confusing Sumi ink with India ink ( we have gone over the differences in this article) we have decided to publish this dedicated article going over the waterproof properties of Sumi ink. One of the more popular questions that we have seen people asking over and over again is if Sumi ink is waterproof or not. With the popularity of Sumi ink constantly growing at a solid pace, more and more people are asking a number of different questions to ensure that they are getting the most out of their ink during use. The popularity of Sumi ink just keeps on increasing with each month that passes with people using it for general artwork and writing more and more as people realize just how cheap and reliable Sumi ink actually is. There are a few other brands of inks on the market but make sure you only use ink that is designed for a fountain pen and say so on the label. Our content may have affiliate links that can result in commissions for qualifying purchases, full details in our privacy policy. Other ink I’ve tried/tested include: Sailor Kiwaguro pigmented ink – Dr. I find that it dries out in my Lamy pens more than De Atramentis. I have been told that this ink is same as the original Super5 formula (mentioned above). Lexington Grey (a beautiful colour) is generally considered to be the best performing of the Noodlers inks. There are many theories that have circulated online (such as ‘Noodlers doesn’t work for Moleskine paper’) but my own experience was different from many of those theories – there are so many variables when using fountain pens for sketching. Other people have had a problems with clogging pens (particularly Lamys) and the ink smearing when applying paint over the top but I rarely had any problems with it. These were the first permanent inks I was introduced to and used without any problems for many years.
